ABCGov is here to
bring some focus on some of what the future of effective government
will be. The particular emphasis is to bring innovative ideas to the Pacific Northwest region of
North America. These ideas are, however, quite applicable for
virtually any government at any level on the surface of this (or
any other similarly enigmatic planet!).
Although
budgeting is probably the driest and most boring part of
governmental reform, it is also the most important. You won't
hear budget reform talk in many campaign speeches, but with the
California revolt, that may, in fact, be beginning to change.
People rightly
decry the highly publicized corporate rip-offs of stockholders.
Yet, somehow, governments seem to get away relatively unscathed
from accountability for systematic waste and abuse of taxpayer
monies. You'll even see how various departments mysteriously
"find" money after a tax increase request is defeated by the
voters.
People,
including those within the very governments in question, don't know what
specific services that their governments provide, nor the costs
to perform the functions. That it the first and most fundamental
of budget reforms that needs to occur. It's not a question of
"if," but rather one of "when" will this reform happen.
How long will the citizens put up with the dark ages of
government accountability?
Here at
ABCGov.com, we will chronicle some of the major innovations from
around the world, as well as report on the progress into
the future of the governments of Oregon and
Washington in the U.S, and British Columbia, Canada.
